So I know you're probably thinking not another blog about film and TV because there is not enough of them already. It seems like everyone I know has a blog of some kind these days and I guess the peer pressure was too much for me and I have finally given in. This blog is basically a place for me to ramble on about films and television shows a thing that people who know me will attest to is something I do a lot. To give you an idea of what type of things you may find on here I thought I would give you a run down of the types of films, television shows and general ramblings you may be subject to if you stick around so read on after the jump...
So in terms of films I'm pretty easy. I like most genres although I must confess I am not a big horror fan as as I have gotten older I seem to have become a bit of a wuss and get freaked out quite easy so being alone in a dark room watching a scary movie probably not the best idea. I do have a film degree and so I must warn you I do enjoy those pretentious films that those snooty people talk about to make them sound cultured (you know who you are). That said I watch countless Hollywood films and my film collection which is excessively insane contains many atrocious titles that are so bad they are amazing. I have a full time job and a pretty hectic schedule and so when I do get a chance to sit down for 2 uninterrupted hours generally I am exhausted and so will be more likely to chuck on a mindless popcorn movie rather than a film that may require brain engagement. So what you can expect is mostly reviews on Hollywood popcorn movies with the occasional curve ball of a Foreign Language film, an oldie but goody from the early days of cinema or a classic from the Hollywood Studio System.
Moving swiftly on to television and here is a list of shows I watch on a weekly basis (time permitting) and may rant on about if the mood takes me to you good people: Grey's Anatomy, CSI, CSI: NY, Private Practice, Scandal, Homeland, Dexter, The Good Wife, Major Crimes, Mike and Molly, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds, South Park, Law and Order SVU and Glee. I have also been watching some new shows that started this season; Go On, Partners and Last Resort. I also have countless other television shows in my collection and will inevitably ramble on about them too at some point. As you can see my taste in television shows is as random as my taste in films, from critically acclaimed quality as Homeland to the frivolous fun of Grey's Anatomy and Glee, what can I say a girl needs variety.
So now you know the type of films and television show you can expect being discussed here and if you're still reading I should probably explain the tabs at the top some of which are self explanatory and others not so much. The Television Weekly Round Up will be brief reviews of that weeks episodes where I will discuss what were the weeks winners and losers and rant about various issues I had or awesome moments. Film Reviews is fairly straightforward and will strangely contain... yes you guessed it reviews of films, I know the title through you. Film Theory will basically be me discussing various theories of film which there are many. It will not be a lecture theatre but a place to have simple explanations of some theories and my interpretations or opinions of them. This will also be the place where I will discuss film movements such as French New Wave or German Expressionism and give suggestions of fantastic films to watch from said movements. Similarly I will discuss different genres such as Film Noir, the characteristics of the genre and again film recommendations. The Rumour Mill will be gossip central for the blog, it will contain rumours of upcoming films, casting for new roles in films or TV and announcements within the industry, essential the guilty pleasure centre. Finally the monthly five will be a top five list of various things such as top five films by a certain director or within a genre, top five episodes of a TV series or top five character episodes. Basically the the monthly five could be a top five of whatever I am obsessing about that month.
